Venice 1 (1752)

Following the publication of the Essercizi per Gravicembalo (1739), two extensive manuscript collections, now referred to as Parma (Biblioteca Nazionale Palatina) and Venice (Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana), continued the series of sonatas in printed form. The Venice manuscript, Libro 1, and the nearly identical Parma manuscript, Libro 1 (both dated 1752) contain examples of the “easier and more varied style” that Scarlatti had promised in his preface to the Essercizi.

Performed by David Louie on a Portuguese single-manual harpsichord by Robert Hicks after an 1780 instrument by Joze Calisto. 30 Sonatas.
